Highland Falls Intermediate School
September 2010
Dear HFIS Families,
It is with great anticipation that I welcome you back to another school year. While our name has changed, our commitment to a safe learning environment and high quality education for every child remains our priority and mission.
We have had an extremely busy summer preparing the building and classrooms to ensure a smooth transition and provide for the needs of our students in grades 3-8.
I am mindful of the transition that both new and returning students will be making when they arrive on Thursday, September 2nd for their first day of school. The focus of the first several school days will be getting students acclimated, organized, and familiar with classroom routines and building procedures. It is truly an exciting time!
This year HFIS will offer a "school-within-a-school model," to accommodate the developmental and academic needs of our children. Students in grades 3 through 5 will run on an elementary schedule. Students in grade 6 will run on a transitional elementary schedule, following an 8 period day. Students in grades 7 & 8 will run on an 8 period secondary schedule.
Communication is a vital component of the success of our schools. Therefore, I encourage you to email me at econnors@hffmcsd.org should you have any questions, concerns, or comments. I welcome your insight and feedback as they are invaluable to the process of constant improvement and serve as a form of self-reflection. I look forward to seeing and/or meeting you at Back-to-School Night. Please see dates/times below. Thank you for your ongoing support and trust.
Your Partner in Education,
Mrs. Ellen Connors
Principal
