Dear Parents/Guardian and Student:

It is my belief as an educator that every child can learn and be successful. It is important that you encourage your child to be the best he/she can be during the course of this school year. It is my hope that this will be an exciting and wonderful year for you, your child, and me as well. Below are the classroom expectations and rules. On the reverse you will find the criteria for grading. Please read this information over with your child and sign it. Have your child return this sheet to me the following school day.

AS AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS STUDENT I WILL BE:

  • Respectful to my fellow classmates and teacher
  • On time to my classes
  • Responsible for myself and my work
  • Ready and willing to learn and participate
  • Reliable and prepared for class
  • A reflective learner and listener

Mr. Sangimino and the seventh and eighth-grade students at Highland Falls Middle School understand that when we respect each other’s ideas and opinions we will gain respect and trust from those around us. We will also gain valuable insight and information.

We understand that we are all responsible for our own actions and that positive actions result in positive experiences.

We understand that Mr. Sangimino will come to class ready to teach us and that we should come to class ready to learn and participate.

We understand that Mr. Sangimino will be reliable and prepared for class and that we too should be reliable and prepared for class.

We understand that as reflective learners, we will be able to apply what we have learned to “real life” situations; and that this will help us to grow both academically and personally.

  • Grading Criteria

Quarterly grades will be determined by the following:

-Major tests 30%
-Quizzes 15%
-Homework/Classwork 45%
-Participation/Journal 10%

* Extra-credit and make-up opportunities will be made available on an individual basis. Late assignments will not be made up unless the student was absent from class the day assignment was due.

  • Homework

-All assignments must have the proper heading.
-All assignments must be handed in on time.
-Missed assignments due to illness, or any other school functions that require the student to miss class are the student’s responsibility and will be due the day following the absence.
-Students should only hand in work they are proud of!

Proofreading and neatness counts!

  • Other

- All tests and quizzes must be signed by a parent or guardian!

The education of your child is a working partnership among you, your child, and the teacher. Communication is critical if we are to be successful. Please feel free to contact me at anytime here at school with any questions or concerns you may have. I will be able to offer extra help to your child through student-made appointments.

Sincerely,

Mr. John Sangimino
