Who is your school counselor? 
Ms. Hannigan is the counselor for all students in grades 5 – 8.

What does the school counselor do?

The school counselor uses a variety of strategies, activities, delivery methods, and resources to facilitate student growth and academic achievement. The school counselor serves as a student advocate who ascribes to the belief that all students can learn and achieve. 

In an effort to support the healthy development of all students, the school counselor assists students, parents, teachers, and administrators with a variety of services including (but not limited to):

  • Counseling: individual and small group counseling, goal setting, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and stress management in a safe environment where students can express their concerns.
  • Collaboration: work with student, parents/guardians, and school staff to ensure all students meet the stated goals and standards of New York State
  • Scheduling: building the HFMS master schedule as well as individual schedules for all students.

    www.nycareerzone.org: students can learn about their skills and talents and explore exciting careers in NYS through this interactive website

    www.ed.gov: US Department of Education website with resources for parents and students including homework help and preparing for the future.
