Dear Class,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the second grade.  I hope you have been enjoying your summer and are getting ready for school to begin.  I have already been in our classroom getting ready for the first day of school.  I am very excited about starting school and meeting you.

During the summer I hope you had time to go places and do many different things.   For the first day of school I would like you to bring in something that you could share with the class of somewhere you went, something you did, or made.

Also you will find a paper T-shirt that I want you to decorate with your name and the things you like or like to do.  Bring this in on the first day so we can display it on our bulleting board.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Downey

Hello my name is Mrs. Jody Downey.

I am starting my 24th year in teaching. I live in Highland Falls . I am originally from Indiana . I have 2 children. I have a daughter that playes basketball and a son who plays soccer at College. I love basketball. I also love to attend soccer games.

I love teaching second grade. They are old enough to achieve many things on their own but still need a lot of support and guidance. Our greatest achievement in second grade is our annual play. In working with the students preparing for our play I have found all the children are talented in their own way. It is a truly splendid experience and is a must see performance.

I am looking forward to working with the students this year. If you are interested in helping out before the performance please contact me at the school. I will let you know the days and times, as we get closer to the performance.

Homework

Please check your child's backpack every Monday or first day of the week for our weekly homework sheet.
