It is often said that the classroom is a place where miracles happen. It is a place where children with different personalities and different learning styles and abilities come together from different backgrounds even different cultures to learn the things that will enable them to prosper throughout their lives. The classroom is a place filled with young people who are miracles developing into bigger miracles, who will turn around to create even bigger miracles.
Welcome to Fort Montgomery Elementary School where the classrooms are true early childhood classrooms with teachers who understand young children and work every day to make learning experiences enriching and fun for the children.
It is a privilege to be the Principal of such a wonderful school with families and teachers who really care about the growth and development of our young children. Our school educates children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. We use some very special programs to develop the basics of English Language Arts (ELA) and Math.
In Kindergarten, we meet the Letter People who introduce us to sounds, letters and words to develop the foundation for reading. In 1st grade, we then take those skills and move into the Open Court Program which further develops letters, sounds and words to begin formal reading and writing. In 2nd grade we extend our reading to the McGraw Hill Program and integrate reading with a project oriented approach.
We learn our Math through the Every Day Math Program, a real hands-on program that teaches us to think mathematically. You will find that our homework is very different from the usual math homework because we are connecting Math to our every day lives.
Parents are always welcome in our school but we will put you to work reading stories or helping with projects!
