Welcome to our Pre-K Class!

October 14, 2008

We are looking forward to getting our class started and getting to know you and your children. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and Mrs. Liotta. Mrs. Liotta and I have worked together for three years with pre-threes and three year olds at the Nursery School of the Highlands and we are excited to be together working with your child in our Pre-K class. I have permanent certification to teacher Nursery through sixth grade and my masters in Special Education. I taught pre-school for 12 years before staying home to raise my two children. Now that they are in Highland Falls schools full time I am excited to get back into the pre-k classroom myself!

This year our children will be introduced to the Letter People. The Letter People will visit our class and help us learn our letters through fun activities, songs and lots of hands on projects. The children will do more than just learn the alphabet. they will learn letter sounds, shapes and names. And the children will learn all of this in a fun way!

Each month we will also learn a shape and color. The shapes and colors will be incorporated throughout the day in our projects, calendar, reading, songs and various activities.

Snack will be provided by the school for our class. If you child has allergies or needs a special snack, please let us know so that we can make arrangements.

We love birthdays in pre-k and if you would like to send in a special birthday treat for your child on their birthday we will be happy to share with the class. Please let us know the day before you send in the birthday treat.

Your child will need a school folder to bring back and forth in their backpack for school notes and projects. This is a great way for us to communicate throughout the year. So please check and send the folder daily. At the beginning of each month you will receive a calendar and newsletter to keep you informed of what will be going on that month and any special dates or activities happening.

Please be prompt for drop-off and pick up. For safety purposes, late drop offs and pick ups must be taken care of in the main office. If anyone other then yourself will be picking up your child, we will need a note from you stating this before we can send your child home with someone else.

If you or a family member would like to visit our class to share something, read or help out, please let us know. We all enjoy a special visitor.

We are looking forward to a year filled with fun and learning.
