Regents
Chemistry Class
| To be successful in Regents Chemistry, you will need the following tools: | ||
a. Reference tables
There is no memorization in chemistry – there is only understanding of concepts. This means that if you know how to use your reference tables, then you pass the course. Isn’t that wonderful?! So bring your reference tables to class and use your reference tables when you do your homework. You will be able to use your reference tables for all tests and for the Regents Chemistry exam. |
b. Calculator
In
chemistry, we deal with some very big numbers like Avogadro’s
number: 6.02 x 1023 and some pretty small numbers like the atomic
mass unit: 1.673 x 10-24 grams. You’ll need a full function
calculator to handle problems involving these numbers. Just don’t
let me catch you adding 2+2 on your calculator!
c. Brain
Because you don’t have to memorize arcane facts that you would probably forget in a few days – you are expected to THINK! Chemistry is about thinking. Do
not come into my class expecting to memorize. Do come into my class
ready to think about why our world is the way that it is. |
