Poem

  • Whose Child is This?

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a child out at play
"Mine," said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To wash their hands and comb their hair
To tell them what they should wear
To prepare them that they should always be good
And each day do the things they should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach them to be gentle and kind
To train and direct their little mind
To help them live by every rule
And get the best they can from school"

"Whose child is this?"  I ask once more
Just as the child entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and teacher as they smiled
Each took the hand of the child
" Ours to love and train together
    Ours this blessed task forever"

A child's family and home environment shapes a child's beliefs, attitudes and actions.  Their family is their first teacher.  If the student's family and teacher build a solid partnership, their learning experience will prosper.  I hold very high expectations of my students and want the best for them, as I do my own children.  I promise to work with you in every aspect of your child's education in order to build a strong team and community of support for your child.  A positive relationship between parent, child and teacher is critical for the learning community to function well.  I look forward to building this relationship and partnership with you and having a rewarding year!
