The course will introduce students to the fundamental foundations and structures of the criminal justice system in the United States. The course will study the functions and relationships of criminal law, the police, the courts, trials, prosecution and defense. The rules of criminal procedure at the federal, state and local levels will be analyzed. Concentration will be placed upon everyday application of the law. A key component will be constructing a simulated criminal justice scenario from the crime through the different stages: investigation, trial and outcome.
