About the Director
Mr. Powers has been the Athletic Director since November of 2024. He began his career in education at Bergen Charter High School in Hackensack, NJ, as a Social Studies teacher in 2015. After three years as a teacher, Mr. Powers was promoted to Assistant Principal at Bergen Charter, where he served for four years.
Prior to coming to Highland Falls, Mr. Powers was the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Health for iLearn Schools, a public charter school network with over 21 schools in New York and New Jersey, from 2022 to 2024. During this time, he oversaw all athletic programs and physical education for four high schools, five middle schools, and 12 elementary and primary schools, while supervising over 100 teachers and coaches and five campus-based athletic coordinators.
In addition to his many roles in education, Mr. Powers was the Boys' Varsity Soccer Coach at Bergen Charter High School for 9 years from 2015-2023. Prior to his arrival, the novice program had won only one game. After working for nine years to build the program, his Bergen Charter teams became consistent competitors in North Jersey and made the NJSIAA Semi-Finals in his last year, 2023, as the number two seed. In 2022, Mr. Powers was honored as the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Coach of the Year by nj.com.
Mr. Powers also coached Bergen Charter's Boys' Basketball team and was an assistant coach for the Track and Field and Girls' Volleyball teams. He was also an assistant basketball coach at Monroe Woodbury in 2018.
Mr. Powers graduated from Tuxedo High School in 2011, where he was an All-State soccer player. He went on to play college soccer at NCAA Division II Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and History. Mr. Powers earned his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University in 2018 and is a certified Principal and School Building Leader in multiple states.
