Ms. McMullen- Art Teacher
Dear students, parents and guardians,
I would like to introduce myself; my name is Breanna McMullen; I am one of the Art teachers here at James I. O'Neill High School.
My passion for art began years ago in my high school creative crafts class. That passion drove me to explore the arts in my undergraduate studies. While studying at SUNY Purchase, I gained experience with many different mediums including photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, and sculpture.
After college I completed a yoga certification and became a yoga teacher. I realized quickly that I also have a passion for teaching and connecting with others. Ultimately, this led me to pursue art education and bring my passions of art and teaching together. I then went on to complete my Master’s of Art Education, at Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
Throughout my career as an art teacher I have worked at the elementary, middle, and high school level in various districts. My experience with different grades and diverse populations has helped me to become a well-rounded and versed educator.
As an educator I strive to cater to the diversity of today's learners while working to create an engaging, consistent, and inspiring classroom. My main goal is to share art with students; inspire them to succeed in all that they do and establish a safe environment for them to learn and grow. The goal is for students to walk away feeling empowered with the new skills they will learn while working with various art mediums.
My expectations are that students show up to class on time, try their best even if it is not their favorite project, and that they never give up. I cannot stress this enough, there are no mistakes in art! As Henri Matisse once said, “creativity takes courage”.
I look forward to an inspiring and creative year with our bright minded and courageous students.
